There are many project management website options available. They all have most of the same features; their main distinctions are the layout and a few features that are unique. Some are easy to use, but not fully featured. Others are very powerful, but difficult to use. I have a few project management sites that I like to use.
One of the more difficult parts of using project management sites is getting others to buy in to their usefulness. For this reason, the easy to use, less featured project management sites have more buy-in from other users for whom project management is not essential. If their stake in the project is small, they will not invest time to learn all the features. If, on the other hand, your entire team is invested in the project, then they will invest the time to learn the system to use it to its greatest potential.

I am gearing up for the Social Media Club RGV meeting at 7 pm on August 19, 2009 at the KRGV studio in Weslaco.
Our guest speaker is Texas State Representative Aaron Peña. He will talk to the group about how social media changed the experience during the 81st Legislative Session.
I'm looking for sponsors. Mostly, I need food and drink for the meeting. If you can help, call me at 956-205-0706. |

This weekend, the Food Bank of the Rio Grande Valley will be holding a sort-a-thon. The event will sort and pack food to prepare for a possible hurricane. The food bank needs volunteers to help out with the project. Some friends and I are going to work on a telethon project at the same time to experiment with Livestream.com as a possible tool for non-profits. We will periodically broadcast live during the event to show the Food Bank's progress and to entice volunteers to come over.

Have you ever noticed how some people manage to get ahead easily?
Have you noticed how they are able to easily make friends with others and solve most problems with a couple of phone calls?
Leaders often seem to be popular at events and even in private gatherings.
What sets leaders apart? Why are they so awesome?
I
think you will find that leaders are often great at communicating with
others. They have a style that makes others comfortable in approaching
them and talking to them. But modern leaders are now able to
communicate in many different ways other than public speeches.
This
does not mean that they are perfect at making speeches. Many leaders
are not always the best speakers; but they are effective communicators.
Therefore, communication is more than just style and prose. Master
communicators often use body language and conviction to get their
message across; they also use writing, video, and interviews to
communicate with their audience.
In this day
and age, when a public speech can reach a handful or even a few
thousand people, leaders find themselves constantly reaching out to
larger audiences through different modes of communication to further
their cause. The same passion that guides them to seek a greater
audience also gives their words conviction.
Leaders
are now expected to communicate by more then just their voice. They are
expected to communicate well through writing. Much of the Internet,
despite, the addition of audio and video, depends largely on the
written word. Leaders are often called upon to make their case in
written form on their website, a newsletter, a blog, or even an email.
They are expected to be able to find new audiences and reach them in
the most effective way.
Think about some of
the most successful people in America. They often speak publicly, write
books, teach seminars, send out newsletters, and are the center of
attention anywhere they go.
These days,
leaders have to do more than just give good speeches; they have to have
a variety of ways to communicate with their audience. Modern leaders
are required to master almost ever form of communication there is. The
modern leader has to be a Master Communicator. |

Leaders make decisions, plain and simple. They may make popular
decisions or unpopular decisions. We often ask leaders to take charge
because we trust that they will make decisions on our behalf. Winston
Churchill is quoted as saying that "consensus is the absence of
leadership." In many situations, you simply do not have the time to
wait for a consensus. You have to make a decision based on the
available information. For this reason, it is important for
our leaders to have the necessary avenues of information at their
disposal. Sources of information can include websites, RSS feeds,
email, text messages, phone calls, and even internal communications.
Any time leaders are out of touch from their team, they are unable to
make decisions. Ironically, not deciding on something is a decision. Leaders
need technology that is reliable, easy to use, and easy to access. If
getting information becomes difficult, leaders risk making poor
decisions based on insufficient or bad information. |

I have been working on a couple of club sites using Google Sites.
I am a member of Hub City Toastmasters, which meets every Wednesday at the Pharr Chamber of Commerce. They have asked me to set up a website while we prepare for our charter. As far as I can tell, it is a temporary website. You can visit it in the meantime by visiting http://hctoast.rgvleaders.com.
The other website I created is for Social Media Club RGV. We are also pending a decision on hosting a site. So, I set it up in the meantime. You can visit http://smcrgv.rgvleaders.com for more details. |
