Backing Up Treo Contacts Without a Sync Cable

Today I had to back up contacts for an old Treo phone running Palm OS. Usually when upgrading to a new phone, you can beam all your contacts from one phone to another. Another alternative is to back up your contacts to a computer via the sync cable. Neither was available. There is a third option.

If you click the dropdown menu in the Contacts application, you will see an option to Send Category. If you have All contacts displayed, then the entire list will be emailed. For this to work, you need to have email set up on the treo. The Contacts application will attach a file named All.vcf to the email. Just email yourself. Many contact managers can read .vcf files.

In this case, I used Gmail to import the contacts and thus back up the contacts on the Palm Treo. You may be able to use this method to import your contacts into other internet based contact managers or desktop applications.
