Computer Reboots on Startup

Client computer reboots itself after entering the Windows XP startup screen. On reboot, it shows that the computer was improperly shut down. It offers safe mode options.

Suspect there is a driver problem that prevents the computer from starting properly. Will need to reinstall drivers after checking hard drive for errors.

Brought computer to the shop. Ran MiniPE from CD-ROM. Performed disk check. A few errors were detected, but nothing significant. On startup, Windows launched, though some error popups did occur.

Will attempt to reinstall drivers.

Driver reinstallation did not have immediate effect. Noticed that on startup there was a popup error messages:

AirPlusCFG.exe - Entry Point not found

The procedure entry point apsSearchInterface could not be located in the dynamic link library wlanapi.dll

A similar message popped up for WZCSLDR2.exe and the apsGetReady entry point.

The message related to the D-Link DWL-G520 rev B.

The computer had upgraded to Microsoft Windows Service Pack 3, which broke the drivers for the wireless LAN.

Downloaded driver update at http://www.dlink.com/products/?pid=DWL-G520_revB&tab=1

The patch seems to have solved the popup and startup problem.

The computer did need to have the old drivers uninstalled and the new drivers installed. This resulted in having to reset the wireless LAN access information.
