Computers services took a turn a while back with the introduction of PCI slots and USB ports. Back in the day, you had ISA slots that had to be configured with IRQ settings and jumpers. PCI cards eliminated that. When USB ports came around, you were suddenly able to upgrade your computer by simply plugging in a device. You could add drives, cameras, audio, video, input devices, and many other things. Most people can do their own upgrades by plugging in a device to their USB port.
