What is an Extranet?
An Extranet is similar to an Intranet in that it is not viewable by the public.
An Extranet allows a company to post information for different types of memberships.
When you check your cable bill, electric bill, or bank online, you are entering that company's extranet.
Effectively, an extranet is a password protected part of a company's network you can access through the web, but does not give you access to the company's internal works.
Do I need an Extranet? Most businesses don't need an extranet unless you sell some sort of subscription service. If this is the case, you can cut down on phone calls by automating much of the customer care process through an Extranet. Another possibility is if you work with a lot of contractors. An Extranet can allow your business to collaborate with outside organizations privately without letting them onto your company's internal network. Can You Create an Extranet for Me?We certainly can; but it falls out of our main area of practice. It is probably best if we help you find the right team to help your business set up an Extranet. |
